Tigers’ bullpen struggles; Ennis rallies for 11-8 victory

Texas High coach John McClure says Tigers must focus on getting to Saturday’s third game after losing Thursday night.

ENNIS, Texas – Texas High’s bullpen couldn’t protect an early 7-2 lead Thursday as Ennis exploded for nine runs in the fifth inning to beat the Tigers, 11-8.

The 5A area best-of-three series continues Friday at Texas High.

“We didn’t play as well as we have our last three games,” said Tiger mentor John McClure. “We’ve got to focus on tomorrow and get it to Saturday for game three.”


Tigers led Ennis until nine-run inning

The Tigers build a 6-1 lead with three runs in the first, and three more in the third.

Luke Smith started on the mound for Texas High. He went four innings, allowing six hits and three runs. He walked five and struck out three. Robert Cheney and S Pritchard both struggled in relief.

Ennis (17-11-2) outhit the Tigers, 13-12. Texas High also hurt itself with seven walks and four errors.

Caden Miller led Texas High at the plate with two doubles and two singles. He scored two runs and drove home two more. Ben Depriest and Zane Dodson had two hits each for the Tigers. Rian Cellers had a run-scoring double, and Smith drove in two runs with a single. Trey Lavender and Jackson Halter had one hit each.
