ROUND ROCK EXPRESS — 11-3 (.786) — W, 15-6 VS. OKLAHOMA CITY
Triple-A West, East Division (2-0, T1st, – GB)
Round Rock posted 13 hits, including 5 home runs, in its 15-6 victory over the Oklahoma City Dodgers on Friday night. 1B Curtis Terry (3-for-5, HR, 2B, 3 RBI) and DH Elier Hernandez (3-for-4, HR, 4 RBI, BB, SB, 3 R) each homered as part of 3-hit showings at the plate. SS Anderson Tejeda (1-for-3, HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB, SB) reached base 3 times, connecting for his 1st career Triple-A home run on a 446-foot blast to left-center field in the 4th. LF Jason Martin (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, BB, 3 R) and RF Carl Chester (2-for-5, HR, 3 RBI) added home runs of their own as part of the E-Train’s offensive barrage. 2B Yonny Hernandez worked a pair of walks and notched 2 stolen bases, entering today as the Triple-A leader in steals (3). RHP Jason Bahr (4.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R-ER, 4 BB, 3 SO, 1 HR, 85 pitches/47 strikes) took no decision in the start, his Triple-A debut. RHP Jharel Cotton (W, 2.0 SHO IP, 3 SO) earned the win in relief, retiring 6 of 7 batters faced in his 1st appearance of the season.
FRISCO ROUGHRIDERS – L, 5-6 VS. MIDLAND
Double-A Central, South Division (3-1, 1st, – GB)
risco suffered a 5-6 loss in a back-and-forth affair with the Midland RockHounds on Friday night, the club’s 1st defeat of the 2021 campaign. RHP Cole Winn allowed a 2-R HR in the 1st inning of his Double-A debut, but held Midland to 2 runs on just 2 hits over his last 3.2 frames, fanning 6 of 19 batters faced (ND, 4 H, 4 R-ER, 1 BB, 6 SO, 1 HR, 71 pitches/50 strikes). SS Davis Wendzel (2-for-4, BB, 2 R) tallied his 1st multi-hit game at the Double-A level, and has reached base in over half of his 17 PA this season (5 BB, 3 H). 3B Ryan Dorow (2-for-5, R) produced the RoughRiders’ lone extra-base hit on a double in the 5th. 2B Jax Biggers worked a career high-tying 3 walks (also 7/17/18 at EVE w/ SPO). RHP Cole Uvila (1.0 IP, 0 H, 1 R-ER) was saddled with the loss after surrendering the go-ahead run in the top of the 9th on a sacrifice fly.
HICKORY CRAWDADS – W, 8-4 AT GREENSBORO
High-A East, South Division (2-2, T4th, 2.0 GB)
Hickory rallied from a 4-run deficit to earn an 8-4 win over Greensboro on Friday night, scoring all 8 runs in the final 3 innings. The offense was keyed by home runs in each of those frames, with RF Jake Guenther (3-R HR in 7th), 2B Justin Foscue (2-R HR in 8th) and LF Kole Enright (solo HR in 9th) providing the long balls. The 8th inning blast was the 1st professional home run for Foscue, the club’s first round draft selection in 2020. The Crawdads’ 7 HR through 4 games are tied for the most by a Texas affiliate (also Round Rock). Starter RHP Grant Wolfram (3.0 IP, 0 R) held the Grasshoppers without a hit through 3 innings, and RHP Reid Anderson (2.0 IP, 0 R) closed things out with a scoreless 8th and 9th inning.
DOWN EAST WOOD DUCKS – W, 4-2 AT KANNAPOLIS
Low-A East, Central Division (4-0, 1st, – GB)
The Woodies remain unbeaten on the season following Friday night’s 4-2 win against Kannapolis. With Down East leading 2-0 in the 7th inning, SS Luisangel Acuna belted a 2-run home run to left field to extend the club’s lead to 4-0. Acuna finished 2-for-4 and is batting .375 (6-16) with one HR and a team-high 7 RBI thru 4 G. 3B Keyber Rodriguez (2-for-4, R) and 2B Keithron Moss (2-for-4, R) also collected multiple hits. On the mound, RHP Tekoah Roby did not allow a hit in his 1st professional start (2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 SO). RHP Ben Anderson (3.0 IP, 0 R) picked up the win in relief, whiffing 4 of 12 batters faced.
