LONGVIEW, Texas – C.J. Kelly poured in 29 points Thursday night in the Leroy Romines Invitational at Longview High School to lead Texas High past Mexia, 75-72.
The Tigers improved to 13-4 with the win. Kyle Wright added 18 points for THS, with Matt Arnold contributing 11.
Earlier Thursday, Texas High opened tournament play with a 66-58 win over Grapevine (16-4). Kelly also scored 29 points in this victory, with Wright scoring 21.
Liberty-Eylau boys win in OT
IDABEL, Okla. – Liberty-Eylau trailed most of the game, but rallied to beat Valliant, Okla., in overtime, 48-43. The Leopards won their eighth straight game at the Idabel Warrior Winter Classic with 17 points in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 40-40. L-E (13-3) outscored Valliant in the extra period, 8-3, with senior Isaiah Cross scoring four of his 15 points.
Kentraile Atkins sparked the Leopards’ comeback in the fourth quarter, also finishing with 15 points. L-E converted only 13 of 27 free throws.
Trio leads Razorbacks to win
Arkansas High advanced in the winner’s bracket at Idabel Thursday by dominating Howe, Okla., 65-50.
Johnathan Blair, Cameron Dorn and Micah Yarboro scored 17 points each in leading the Razorbacks to victory. AHS will be back in action Friday at 8:30 p.m.
Lady Leopards, Texas High, PG prevail
HALLSVILLE, Texas – Senior Kyla Coston netted 15 points, and Daycoria Meadows added 12 Thursday to lead Liberty-Eylau’s girls past Lindale in the Hallsville Holiday Classic, 67-27.
The Lady Leopards lost their tournament opener to Kilgore, 42-35. Coston led L-E with 13 points, while Skylier Bailey contributed eight.
In other tournament play, Texas High’s girls defeated Houston Heights in overtime, 80-76. The Lady Tigers had a balanced attack led by Antonia Porter’s 21 points, including five treys. Vicki Willis scored 15, Kerrighan Dunn 13, and Amiyah Rone 12.
Shanequa Henry poured in 20 points in Pleasant Grove’s 53-33 win over Pine Tree. Keshawn Davis added 10 points for the winners.
