Texarkana Regional Airport Broke Ground

Texarkana Regional Airport broke ground on their new $36M  terminal Saturday at a ceremony staged near the runway of the current terminal. The current terminal was built in 1960 and renovated in 1992.

The new 40,000 square foot terminal is projected to be finished and opened by spring of 2024.

Texarkana Mayors attended and spoke

Mayor Allen Brown from Texarkana, Arkansas said it was a great day for Texarkana.

Texarkana, Texas Mayor Bob Bruggeman said that the new terminal will provide potential growth to the area. Mayor Bruggeman also  said the new terminal  will also make a great first impression for people flying in.

Other speakers on stage before the breaking included Paul Mehrlich, Executive Director of Texarkana Regional Airport, Dale Morris , Director of Government Affairs for American Airlines, and representatives from the Texas and Arkansas Governors offices.

Farmers Bank and Trust Market President James Bramlett also spoke on stage before the ground breaking ceremony. Farmers Bank and Trust was the title sponsor of the event. Eagle Distributing, Texarkana Emergency Center and Hospital McClelland Consulting Engineers, WDD Architects and York Pecan Company were also sponsors.

Free food and refreshments were served at the ground breaking.

A DC-3 was at the ground breaking and the public took rides on the vintage plane for a $100 donation. You can still ride on the plane Sunday till noon.

The 95th Squadron of the Cadet U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, Cival Air Patrol was at the event. They presented the colors before the crowd said the pledge of allegiance leading up to the ground breaking.
