Shatelia Walker-Scott has been named Fox Sports Texarkana, “Woman of the Year”.

Shatelia is a Texarkana Texas Police Officer. She has been with the department since November 2016. Currently she is assigned to the Operations Division.

She is a 2009 graduate of Arkansas High School. Officer Walker-Scott graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in 2013 with a degree in Christian Studies.  She was a member of the OBU basketball team while attending college.

Walker-Scott said she is honored to have gone to a great university. She says they taught her the importance and great demands of being a difference maker.  Walker-Scott has been active in her church since a young age. She has developed a strong interest in the welfare of people.  This public servant has the desire to make a difference in people’s lives.  Working as a police officer provides her with those opportunities.

 

On May 10, Officer Walker-Scott responded to a motor vehicle accident at Classic Car Wash. An employee was struck by a vehicle and was pinned between two vehicles. She arrived on scene and observed fire personnel providing medical aid. The victim exhibited heavy bleeding from his leg. Fire department members  attempted to remove his clothing.

A citizen had placed a belt on the victim’s leg prior to Walker-Scott’s arrival. However, she immediately noticed it was ineffective. Officer Walker-Scott intervened. The officer immediately applied a tourniquet on the man’s injured leg.  She showed outstanding performance of duty. She acted when she could have stood back and allowed fire personnel to work. For her action, Officer Walker-Scott was awarded the Certificate of Merit.
