AUSTIN, Texas — No. 3 Baseball dropped the series opener to No. 11 Texas Tech by a score of 6-3 at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Friday afternoon. The loss was the first series-opening defeat of the season for the Longhorns.

Trey Faltine and Mike Antico each led off innings with home runs, but the Longhorns were limited to five hits in the loss.

Texas Tech (29-10, 9-7) started the scoring with a solo home run to lead off the second.

Texas (34-10, 12-4) took the lead with a pair of runs in the third inning. Faltine led off the inning with a line-drive home run to left field to even the score, 1-1. Mitchell Daly then drew a one-out walk and would come around to score on an RBI groundout by Cam Williams to put Texas up 2-1.

The Red Raiders regained the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth and added three more in the fifth to make it a 6-2 ballgame.

Antico got one back for the Longhorns in the fifth with a solo home run to lead off the inning, cutting the Texas Tech advantage to 6-3.

Pleasant Grove Lady Hawks Leopards

Drew Shifflet struck out four batters in two scoreless innings of work out of the bullpen. Coy Cobb pitched a scoreless eighth and Palmer Wenzel threw a 1-2-3 ninth.

The Longhorns and Red Raiders will square off in game two on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
