ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers signed pitchers Matt Bush, Zac Curtis, Tim Dillard, and infield Chase d’Arnaud to minor league contracts, the club announced Monday.
The four players will also be invited to major league spring training with the Rangers in Surprise, Ariz. in February.
The right-handed Bush was not tendered a contract offer by Texas on Nov. 3 and has not appeared in a game since June 14. He underwent season-ending surgery to fix a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. Bush, who had no record and a 4.70 ERA over 21 relief appearances in 2018, is expected to be ready in the second half of 2019 after rehab.
Curtis is a left-hander who spent all of September with Texas after they put in a waiver claim for him from Philadelphia on Aug. 7. The 26-year-old allowed eight runs, seven of them earned, over eight games/6.2 innings and had a 4.96 ERA in 15 major league appearances for both Texas and the Phillies.
Dillard has spent his entire 16 seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers. The 35-year-old was with Triple-A Colorado Springs in each of the last four years, including 25 games with a start in 2018. Dillard collected 73 relief appearances over parts of four years with the Brewers from 2008-12 with a 4.70 ERA (44 ER/84.1 IP) in his MLB career.
San Francisco purchased the contract of d’Arnaud on July 7, and the 31-year-old spent the remainder of the year with the Giants. d’Arnaud batted .215 with three home runs and nine RBI in 42 games. Most of his time was spent with Triple-A Sacramento where he earned mid-season All-Star honors in the Pacific Coast League while averaging a .915 OPS in 76 games. Except for catcher, d’Arnaud has made an appearance at every infield position, including pitcher, over his 236 major league games with Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Boston, San Diego, and San Francisco.
