Diabetes Cooking Classes Planned

Diabetes cooking classes planned in Southwest Arkansas.

The University of Arkansas Hope will host “Living Well with Diabetes” a Diabetic Cooking Class. It begins on Thursday, January 17.  The classes will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Hempstead Hall. The class will be taught by Terrie James, County Extension Agent at the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Research & Extension Agency. The class will consist of four sessions on the following dates; January 17, January 31, February 7, and February 21. It is not necessary to attend all sessions. The cost is $10 per session.

The Diabetes cooking classes will offer tips for managing blood glucose, blood cholesterol and blood pressure. It will also feature simple meal planning strategies, cooking demonstrations and tasting. There will be hands-on activities, and class discussions. Recipes and materials are provided during each class.

There are some very good reasons to attend the class. They include, you or someone you love has been diagnosed with diabetes. Classes are very low cost. Also, recipes and materials are provided during each class.

In fact, Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, and is the leading cause of blindness in adults.  Lower limb amputation is 10 times higher in people with diabetes.
