TEXARKANA — A crossing guard was struck by a vehicle on Summerhill Road near Texas High School at around 8:15 a.m. Monday.

According to the Texarkana Texas Police Department, 21-year-old Alexander Gooden was struck by a GMC Yukon and he sustained minor injuries.

Police say Gooden stopped northbound traffic to let a GMC Yukon out of a business parking lot that is directly across the street from Texas High. The driver of the Yukon, who police say was 39-year-old Dustin Hughes of Texarkana, Arkansas, realized traffic had stopped and then turned left.

A tractor-trailer truck was stopped in the outside lane in front of Hughes’ Yukon, and he did not see Gooden until he was right in front of him.
